Spotlight: Venues – Antrim 1844

Antrim 1844 is a country hotel on a beautiful estate in Taneytown, Maryland.  It has been host to weddings and events for the past 18 years or so and has a gourmet restaurant under the highly respected Executive Chef, Michael Gettier.  The food is amazing!  We have had the pleasure of covering many weddings there over the years. Lush gardens and fountains on the well-kept grounds surround the Federal-style architecture of the mansion.  All this provides a perfect backdrop for guests and for our photography.

The textures, colors, and locales are so diverse that we can provide something different for each event.  Rooms inside the mansion are also authentic to the period and add visual appeal.  The canopy beds are a big hit!  Most wedding clients book several rooms for the wedding party and the many cottages provide a varied experience for their guests that choose to stay the night or weekend.

Wedding ceremonies are often held in the Rose Garden.  Trees and tall bushes are strategically placed to block late-day sun from shining in guest’s eyes. Ceremonies indoors can take place in the pavilion or a smaller ceremony can be held in the mansion itself.

The Pavilion is a modern structure that is well suited for ceremony and reception.  There is a main ballroom and a smaller glass-enclosed room.  Guests can freely move between rooms as well as outside.

In June of this year,  Daniel Fabula joined the Antrim as Special Events Coordinator.  He has an impressive resume of similar experience as Catering Director of the IMF World Bank and the Marriott Hawaii, to name just two.  He has worked with many VIPs including Robert Parker the MD-based international wine critic, Pam Shriver, the Governor of Hawaii, Japan royalty, and the Pope!  He continues the Antrim tradition of very personalized client planning and service.  I can tell you that the day-of-event staff service is excellent.

We at Jackson Photography are very familiar with the buildings and grounds.  When you book our services we will work closely with you to blend the ideal photography plan into your wedding day.

Engagement Portraits at Hampton Mansion

The Hampton National Historic Site located in Towson has recently been renovated and is again open to the public.  The exterior and it’s surrounding grounds are a great backdrop for portraits.  Here, I photographed Joanna and Michael in preparation for their May 2011 wedding.  They didn’t know what to expect in a portrait session but were open to my suggestions.  They started with their “camera smiles” (like we all do), but soon, they were relaxed and looking more like themselves.  They were very appreciative of the guidance and as a result of this experience will be even more comfortable working with me on their wedding day.  The colors and textures of the surroundings were distinctive and back at the studio, Laurent, my graphics wizard further interpreted the hues and shading to produce these unique images.

Spotlight: Homewood Museum

Homewood Museum Wedding Event

Johns Hopkins University introduced Homewood Museum as a venue for weddings and events with an open house October 6, 2010.  The building, located on the campus of Johns Hopkins University, was originally built for the Carroll family in 1775.  Today it houses the Homewood Museum with exhibits showing an intimate look at life in early-19th-century Baltimore.

Homewood Museum is now Johns Hopkins’ third historically significant event venue.  The others are the George Peabody Library and Evergreen Museum and Library. Both Peabody and Evergreen are two of my favorite locations. They are visually striking and lend themselves to a great atmosphere for weddings and receptions.  The Homewood House is a unique and charming setting that will be host to many memorable events.

Present at the opening were many of the very best event service providers in Baltimore.  Caterers included Chef’s Expressions, Zeffert & Gold, Linwoods, Classic Catering People, Charles Levine, and Watson Caterers.  The tent was by Loane Brothers. Perkins Productions provided general lighting as well as wine cellar decorations.  Beautiful table settings and linens were courtesy of Select Event Rentals and menu cards were by Just Ink on Paper.  Wicked Willow provided eye-catching floral arrangements. Betsy Robinson provided the gown for the strolling bride and groom.  Jay’s Valet Parking services were on site.  Dahlia Flute Duo played in the museum and The Freddie Stevens Trio played smooth music in the tent.  Charm City Cupcakes were the sweet endings to a beautiful early fall evening.  Photographs of course, by Jackson Photography.
